Challenge Almere - European Long Distance Champs - preview
Info
Key Points
- It's Europe's oldest long-distance triathlon and the oxygen levels couldn't be any higher - the race takes place below sea level!
- We always see fast times at this race - last year: Els Visser: 8h36 & @mennokoolhaas 7h36 -probably due to the fact that it is extremely well supported by fans.
- Magda Nieuwoudt and Marlene De Boer are the favorites for the women while the men's race looks wide open with Jesper Svensson, Milan Brons, and Florian Angert looking to lead the way.

Key Points
- It's the FIRST EVER women's Ironman World Championships in Nice. That means it is as unpredictable as it gets. One thing is for sure... we are in for some drama.
- Last year, the men debuted the course and showed just how vital the bike leg is. Sam Laidlow's incredible ride - which saw him outride everyone by 4 minutes or more - secured him the title.
- For the women, it will be even more vital as the duration will be longer, meaning even bigger gaps. Lucy Charles-Barclay rode the course earlier this year at the regular Ironman nice in 5 hours and 16 minutes ๐คฏ This will also impact the marathon significantly, and just like the men's race, we can expect some blowups.
- There are many dark horses here and athletes who could surprise us all with it being such a unique course. Keep an eye out for the strong climbers (Anne Haug, Marjolaine Pierre, Kat Matthews) who can run well off a tough bike.

Key Points
- All 17 contracted women line up for this one with the big headline that finally, for the first time ever - Ashleigh Gentle, Anne Haug, and Taylor Knibb go head to head. It should be a battle for the ages.
- Anne Haug, however, will be one of many athletes (Kat Matthews, India Lee, Chelsea Sodaro, Lucy Charles-Barclay) who will arrive at this just one-week post-Nice - it will be tough to back it up... to say the least.
- On both sides, this could the wildcard/dark horse race - Taylor Spivey, Flora Duffy, Julie Derron and Caroline Pohle are all unknowns at the distance, but could seriously impact the women's race while the wildcards of Kyle Smith, Youri Keulen, Antonio Lopez, and Mika Noodt could easily challenge for the win on the men's.
